GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $190,000 FOR RENOVATION OF STORYBOOK THEATRE ON KAUA`I

For Immediate Release:  December 14, 2006

HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $190,000 to complete the renovation of the Storybook Theatre of Hawai`i’s Spark M. Matsunaga Children’s Media Center in Hanapepe, Kaua`i.

The Storybook Theatre of Hawai`i, which hosts hands-on art and technology classes, workshops and performances as well as television and radio production of children’s programming, occupies the historic “Obatake” building and has been under renovation since 2001.  When the project is completed, expected June 2007, the building will house an educational classroom, production facilities, a business office, and a digital recording studio for The Storybook Theatre’s programs.

“Organizations such as Storybook Theatre allow our school children to participate in the performing and media arts,” said Governor Lingle.  “The renovations to the Children’s Media Center will benefit the children of Kaua`i by allowing them the opportunity to hear, see and perform stories that perpetuate the cultural values and heritage of our islands.”
