GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $352,000 TO EXPAND HANAPEPE PUBLIC LIBRARY ON KAUA`I
For Immediate Release: December 12, 2005
HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $352,000 in design costs for the expansion of Hanapepe Public Library on Kaua`i.
The overall project includes building demolition, building expansion, additional parking, site improvements and interior renovations. The expanded library will house a new auditorium and additional space for the library collection, storage and staff.
“The expanded Hanapepe Library will further accommodate our residents and visitors to Hanapepe who wish to take advantage of the library’s resources,” said Governor Lingle.
The Hawai`i State Public Library System (HSPLS) listed this project as number six of their nine priorities. They have indicated that the Hanapepe Library is currently undersized with only 6,300 square feet of space and nine existing parking stalls.
“Many thanks to Governor Lingle for her continuing support of our public libraries and the valuable services and collections they provide to our communities,” said Hawai`i State Librarian Jo Ann Schindler. “These much needed renovation projects will help to keep our libraries safe and inviting public spaces.”
The total project cost is $1,664,500. Construction is expected to be completed by December 2008.
