GOVERNOR’S EAST HAWAI`I COUNCIL OF ADVISORS TO MEET ON THURSDAY, DEC. 15 AT UH-HILO

For Immediate Release: December 8, 2005

HILO – The Governor’s East Hawai`i Council of Advisors will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, Dec. 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the University of Hawai`i-Hilo in room UCB 127.

The Council will hear presentations from Tim Hodge of the Hawai`i Waste Systems, regarding the “Ship it out” proposal of shipping Big Island rubbish to the mainland.  The Council will also hear from UH-Hilo Interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Steven Hora, regarding the relationship between UH-Hilo and Hawai`i Community College.

“The Governor encourages the community to attend and share any concerns they may have regarding state government,” said Andy Smith, the Governor’s East Hawai`i Liaison.

The Neighbor Island Councils of Advisors are tasked with providing the Governor with a list of short- and long-term issues and goals that should be addressed by state government over the next one-, two-, and five year periods.  The councils also assist in identifying spending priorities and potential new sources of revenue for the state, as well as recommend potential nominees from the neighbor islands to serve on state boards and commissions.

The members of the Governor’s East Hawai`i Council of Advisors are Chairman Tom Kalili, Pua Takumoto, Dylan Nonaka, Andy Baclig, Carol Van Camp, Ted Hong, Ken Ahlo, John Kai and Alton Okinaka.
