GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $127,000 FOR AIR CONDITIONING AT KAILUA PUBLIC LIBRARY
For Immediate Release: December 8, 2005
HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $127,000 for a new air conditioning system at Kailua Public Library to replace the current system which is about 15 years old and in need of constant repairs.
The project involves the replacement of a 20-ton package-type air conditioning unit located on the ground outside of the Kailua Public Library, refurbishment of a protective chain-link enclosure, and incidental electrical and demolition costs.
“In addition to providing Kailua library patrons and staff with an environment that is comfortable and more conducive to learning, the new upgraded air conditioning system is essential to protect the books and other resource material,” said Governor Lingle.
“Many thanks to Governor Lingle for her continuing support of our public libraries and the valuable services and collections they provide to our communities,” said Hawai`i State Librarian Jo Ann Schindler. “These much needed renovation projects will help to keep our libraries safe and inviting public spaces.”
The total project cost is $150,000. Governor Lingle released earlier this year $23,000 for design costs. Construction is expected to begin in May 2006 and be completed by October 2006.
