GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $5.48 MILLION FOR LIHUE HELIPORT IMPROVEMENTS

For Immediate Release: December 30, 2003

HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle recently released $5,483,000 for improvements to the heliport at Lihue Airport, including the construction of lease lots for heliport tenants to build support facilities such as hangars, maintenance facilities, offices and ticketing areas.  The existing heliport facility does not have conveniently located spaces for such support facilities.

The funds will be used for infrastructure improvements such as paved parking, as well as installation of water, sewer, and electrical lines to enable heliport operators to locate facilities adjacent to the takeoff and landing pads.

The improvements will help increase efficiencies for heliport businesses as well as provide customers with convenient access to the operators’ business sites from Ahukini Road.
