Aloha,
One of the most pressing needs facing our state is repairing and maintaining public facilities that have been neglected for decades.
For too long, schools, libraries, University buildings, parks, small boat harbors and highways have been allowed to deteriorate.
Over the past two-and-a-half years, my Administration has focused on reversing this trend.
We implemented sound financial management and overcame a budget deficit that was in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Now, with a strong economy and positive revenue outlook, we have the resources and the will to invest in our public facilities.
Capital improvement projects that have been talked about for years are finally becoming reality. Schools are getting needed air conditioning, new classrooms are being built, park restrooms are being upgraded, and state hospital emergency rooms are being expanded.
These improvements are investments in the future of our state and our children.
Mahalo. This is Governor Linda Lingle.
