WEEKLY RADIO ADDRESS – ECONOMIC MOMENTUM
June 10, 2005
Announcer: Now, Governor Linda Lingle's Weekly Radio Address
(:56)
Aloha!
Over the past two and a half years, Hawai`i’s economy has flourished.
Our state now has the lowest unemployment in the nation, nearly 31,000 new jobs have been added since December 2002, personal income is expected to grow 3 percent this year, and our tourism and construction industries continue to expand.
While Hawai`i is enjoying a vibrant economy today, now is the time to take steps to ensure that this economic momentum continues.
I have convened an Economic Momentum Commission to develop a long-term action plan to keep our economy moving forward.
The professionals joining me in this important effort represent small and large businesses, universities, unions, the military, environmentalists, non-profits, and government officials.
By working together now, while our economy is strong, we can continue this momentum and improve our unique quality of life.
Mahalo. This is Governor Linda Lingle.
