Preserving Natural Resources

Regional Robotics Competition Ramps Up

Student robotics teams from across the state, nation and world are in the final preparation stages before the inaugural VEX Pan-Pacific Robotics Championship next week. Hawai`i residents who wish to support our future generations of leaders are encouraged to attend the competition at the Hawai`i Convention Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Freedom Salute Welcomes Heroes Home to Hawai`i  

Approximately 200 Hawai`i Army National Guard soldiers were welcomed home this month from deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, the United Arab Emirates and the Philippines during Freedom Salute ceremonies on O`ahu and the Big Island. State Adjutant General Major General Robert Lee presided over the ceremonies and shared his gratitude on behalf of the state.

Partnerships Preserve
Marine Life

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) partnered with the U.S. Coast Guard and National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) officers this month to remove four tons of nets and debris from Kure Atoll in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. NMFS officers rescued seven Hawaiian monk seals, five black-footed albatross, and a tern from entanglement.
