State of Hawai`i Governor's Update for the Week of November 15-21, 2008

 Stimulating Hawai`i's Economy

As part of an ongoing commitment to strengthen economic conditions at home while creating new jobs, Governor Lingle concluded a successful 11-day trip to Asia this week. In her meetings with government, business and education leaders, the Governor explored new opportunities for tourism and energy independence as part of her five-point economic action plan

Bolstering Tourism
in Key Asian Markets

Implementing the Administration's five-point action plan to strengthen our economy, Governor Lingle announced an exciting new development in air service during her official state visit to Taiwan and Shanghai, where she met with industry leaders to encourage travel to Hawai`i.

Energy Independence
Gains Global Momentum

The need to transition from oil to clean, renewable energy sources was a predominant theme throughout the Governor's official state visits to Taiwan and China this week. Governor Lingle held numerous discussions with leaders about Hawai`i's bold pursuit of a clean energy economy.

Partnerships Provide Foundation for Growth

While in China and Taiwan this week, Governor Lingle focused on forging new global partnerships in the areas of education and clean energy to bolster and support The Lingle-Aiona Administration's long-term economic transformation toward innovation and energy independence.
