State of Hawai`i Governor's Update for the Week of June 7-13, 2008

New Laws Deter Drunk
Driving, Protect Children

Governor Linda Lingle signed two critically important automobile safety bills into law that will save the lives of Hawai`i residents. The measures will protect the public from drunk drivers and reduce the risk of endangering the lives of children by preventing them from being left unattended in vehicles. "There is nothing we can do to make the pain any less, but we can do something to bring honor to the families who lost loved ones by making certain we did what we could so it wouldn't happen to anyone else," the Governor said.

Governor Lingle presents a ceremonial copy of HB3377 to Carol McNamee, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Hawai`i founder. Also pictured are DOT Director Brennon Morioka, Kekai Seabury and Attorney General Mark Bennett.
