State of Hawai`i Governor's Update for the Week of November 29 - December 5, 2008

 Hawai`i Leads Nation
with Clean Energy Model 

In yet another step toward a secure economic and clean energy future, Governor Linda Lingle and Shai Agassi, founder and CEO of Better Place, unveiled a plan to bring an electric-car network to Hawai`i, creating a model for the adoption of electric cars in the U.S. "Our path, the direction of energy independence, is not based on what happens to the price of a barrel of oil," said Governor Lingle. "We have to reach a secure and clean energy future."

State Hosts Seminars

Hawai`i Named America's Second Healthiest State

Recognizing the Lingle-Aiona Administration's work to promote healthy lifestyles, a national survey released by the United Health Foundation this week showed that Hawai`i residents are the second healthiest in the nation - up from the state's ranking of third in 2007.

Operation Gift Lift
Supports Hawai`i Soldiers  

During this holiday season, Hawai`i residents are encouraged to participate in "Operation Gift Lift" and share the spirit of Aloha with Hawai`i-based soldiers from the 29th Brigade Combat Team and the 100th Battalion, 442nd Regiment who are currently deployed to Kuwait.

Executive Office on Aging to Host Free Seminars

Starting next week, the State Executive Office on Aging will begin hosting free seminars across the state for grandparents who are raising grandchildren. Participants will receive a free resource kit with information on family caregiving, health care for children, and legal matters.

 Upcoming Events

December 5, As part of the Governor's five-point economic action plan, Governor Lingle will deliver the keynote address at the Maui Visitors Bureau's (MVB) annual meeting. MVB members will be given an update on the Administration's efforts to increase tourism marketing and outreach, including her recent trip to Asia to promote travel to Hawai`i and increases in air flights to the islands.
