Governor Lingle will hold a news conference to update the public on the progress of the Hawai‘i Clean Energy Initiative, a partnership between the State of Hawai‘i and the U.S. Department of Energy to have 70 percent of Hawai‘i’s energy come from clean sources by 2030. As part of this effort, on Oct. 20, 2008, the State and Hawaiian Electric companies entered into an energy agreement to accelerate regulatory changes needed to help the State meet its clean energy goals. The Governor and Hawaiian Electric officials will provide an update on what has been achieved over the past year under the State-Hawaiian Electric energy agreement, as well as other efforts in support of the Hawai‘i Clean Energy Initiative, including an update on the undersea cable.
