Coast Guard, Navy and Marine Corps Partner to Protect Hawai`i's Oceans
Maritime Safety and Security Team (MSST) 91107, a Coast Guard anti-terrorism team based in Honolulu since 2002, recently began a partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Navy to provide a law enforcement team designed to protect the public from terrorist threats.
Raising Pennies for Pearl Harbor

Group Sail Ensures Readiness

As part of the U.S. Coast Guard's work to increase energy efficiency, Chief Petty Officer David Garrett and his crew from the U.S. Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Team (ANT), Honolulu, converted a 93-year-old lighthouse in Lahaina, Maui to solar power.
National Guard Soldiers Build Classrooms in Thailand
Thirty Soldiers from the Hawai`i National Guard's 230th Engineer Company joined soldiers from the Royal Thai Marine Engineer Battalion in building a new classroom facility in Chanthaburi, Thailand as part of Exercise Cobra Gold 2009.
U.S. Army Reserve - Pacific Celebrates 100 Years
Demonstrating her support for Hawai`i's men and women in uniform, Governor Lingle joined members of the U.S. Army Reserve - Pacific in celebrating their centennial anniversary. The Governor shared her appreciation and respect for Hawai`i's volunteer reservists, who stand ready to serve at a moment's notice.

This month, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) honored Coast Guard District Fourteen Commander Rear Adm. Manson K. Brown for his leadership and commitment to service with a Thurgood Marshall Flag Officers Award.

Honoring the Service of Sgt. Deyson Cariaga
As Commander-in-Chief of the Hawai`i National Guard, Governor Lingle presented a quilt made by members of the Home of the Brave Quilt Project to the family of Sgt. Deyson Cariaga, the first Hawai`i Army National Guard member to be killed in the line of duty since the Vietnam War.
Hickam Demonstration Team Earns Top Honor
Airshow spectators watch a C-17 Globemaster III perform during the 2009 Australian International Airshow at Avalon Airport in Geelong, Australia. The C-17 from Hickam Air Force Base's 535th Airlift Squadron, was one of 11 U.S. military aircraft participating in the airshow.
Soldiers Return From Special Ops Deployment
Thirty soldiers from the Hawai`i Army National Guard's 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT) returned this week from the Philippines where they have spent six months in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). The Soldiers were an element of the Joint Special Operations Task Force-Philippines (JSOTF-P).
Governor Thanks Families of Deployed Soldiers
Governor Lingle, commander-in-chief of the Hawai`i National Guard, visited with the families of 50 deployed Kona- and Hilo-based soldiers and airmen to share her personal appreciation for their service.
USS Hawai`i Honored for Fighting Drugs
The USS Hawai`i (SSN 776) recently became the second naval submarine in U.S. history to receive the U.S. Coast Guard's Meritorious Unit Commendation. The submarine departed Groton, Connecticut this week, and will make Pearl Harbor its home later this summer.
