Honoring Chief Petty Officer Eberhart

Honorary Chief Aviation Ordnanceman David Eberhart, assigned to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS) 24 at Marine Corps, Hawai`i, was appointed an honorary Chief Petty Officer.

U.S. Pacific Fleet Master Chief Tom Howard read an appointment citation from Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Joe R. Campa, Jr. during a ceremony at Tripler Army Medical Center.

Eberhart, 35, was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer on Sept. 2, 2002, and has continued to serve on active duty in his attempt to become a Chief Petty Officer while fighting the disease.
